Equipment

* Board - A beginner should have a board that has a beveled edge (so the edges don抰 catch as easily), has a little flexibility, and is sort of hourglass-shaped like a maxi-pad, so that it is relatively easy to turn.

* Boots - The most important thing is that the boot always moves with your foot. Since the boot is bound to the board and you are controlling it with your feet, if your foot moves within the boot, your foot movement will not translate into board movement.

Make sure you get good boots.

1. The boot should be snug from toe to heel
2. When you lift your heel while standing, your heel should not move up inside the boot. That is, the heel should not come up off the floor of the boot. Raising your heel should raise the heel of the boot too and should not make a space between your heel and the boot.
3. You should not be able to rotate your foot or ankle with respect to the boot when the boot is wedged or pinned in a stationary position. Loose boots may be a problem  north face factory outlet for women renting men抯 boots; their feet tend to be narrower.

Boots with dense, form-fitting foam in the heel solve problems (2) and (3). The foam is a part of the inside of the boot and protrudes into the recess of your Achilles?tendon so that when your heel comes up, it catches on the foam and the boot comes up too. Don抰 leave the rental equipment desk until you are happy - it could mean the difference between having control of your board and not having control of your board.

* Helmet - You抣l want a helmet with good visibility that doesn抰 block your peripheral vision, and one which doesn抰 deafen you so you can hear skiers and riders approach from the sides and behind. Different countries have different safety certification names. So, if it is made in  the north face windbreaker Europe, it might say CE. If it is made in the US it might say Snell. They are made to crack so your head doesn抰. Replace your helmet if the inside or outside becomes cracked.

Lacing up & Strapping in

Boots have lace holes and hooks. Pull hard on the laces when you lace them through the holes. Before hooking the laces through each set of hooks, tie them (like you tie your sneakers, except stop before you make a bow). After hooking the lace on the top hooks, tie them, then hook them through the bottom-most hooks again, tie them. Then hook them through the top-most hooks again and tie them in a bow. It is obvious where you put your feet on the board. The strap bindings look like sandals, except with a support for behind your ankle. Put your foot in - make sure your heel is all the way back, touching the support. Strap the ankle strap first, then the toe strap. Make sure you get them very tight. To walk around on flat ground, unstrap your tail foot. You'll feel awkward for a while. Don't sweat it. The north face coats It goes away.

Clothing

your clothing should be warm, non-restrictive, water-resistant, and breathable.

* Attire - Wear the north face something you can move around in. Pants that are moderately tight, which work for skiing, won抰 work for snowboarding. You抣l be bending your knees a lot more and twisting and squatting and balancing, so you won抰 want restrictive clothing. Your jacket should significantly overlap your pants so you don抰 get snow around your waist. So either gets a long jacket that goes well below the top of your pants, or a normal-length jacket with tall ski pants underneath that cover your abs. I opted for the latter: tall ski pants ($29 USD) that looked and felt one size too large and nylon down jacket ($59 USD). I was dry, warm, and happy. Everything that touches snow must be water resistant. The lining and layer underneath don抰 matter much as long as they don抰 retain sweat. COTTON IS BAD. Chenille, fleece, or wool is good. Gore-tex is very good. You really don抰 have to spend a fortune, but you must spend enough to be warm, breathable, and water-resistant (read the clothing labels).

* Socks - Wear only ONE pair of socks: Ideally, thick long acrylic socks with a very loose weave (turn 'them inside out to check).

* Gloves - Get really warm, waterproof gloves - long ones that extend over the wrists of your jacket. Get gloves you feel comfortable in - not ones that make you feel like you抮e wearing the claws of a giant bear suit costume. You want gloves in which you can EASILY make a fist, for reasons I抣l explain in a minute. They make warm, non-bulky gloves these days.

* Goggles or glasses with polycarbonate lenses ($25 USD); these won抰 shatter when you fall.

* Scarf - tied securely, or turtle fur (a pull-over cylindrical thingy for your neck)

I was going down a steeper part of the mountain toeside, and I reached out in front of me and touched the slope with my hand and felt it as it went by.

First-time cruisers sometimes confuse about choosing the destination for neither cruising nor they aware about the hidden costs in the cruise. So this cruising tip should help them to prepare about what they need to know before they go for cruising:
1. Book early or late
You will get better deal by booking well in advance of your sailing date or at the last minute. Booking early in advance can save you between 15 to 50 percent and also lock in the cabin category of your choice. If you rather wait to book at the last minute, you will even get a better discount on a ship's unsold cabin. But of course you will not be able to choose the cabin that you like, whatever is left is available.
2. Drive rather than fly
You could save a lot if you just drive to the nearest port in the city rather than you fly. Nowadays there are more cruises than ever before departing from 'close-to home' ports such as Boston, New York, Bayonne (New Jersey), Philadelphia, Baltimore, Charleston, Jacksonville, Tampa, New Orleans, Mobile, Galveston, Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Francisco and Seattle.
3. Take a short cruise first
If you are a first-timer  cheap moncler uk jackets men cruiser, it is better for you to take short-cruise 3 to 4 days on the weekend. In this case, you will be able to 'test the water' before you jump-in to the real cruise. There is a good selection of ships sailing on short cruises to various destinations in the Caribbean, as well moncler as along the Mexican Riviera and to New England/Canada.
4. Beware of added charges
You have to be prepared for added charges when you are on a cruise. Expenses such as playing in the casinos, alcoholic beverages to photos snapped by the ship's ubiquitous are not included in your cruise fare. So, travel-smart by preparing your budget in advance when you are going on a cruise. If you must buy something, wait until  moncler coats at loehmann's the final day of the cruise-most of the stores will throw a sale then.
5. From ship to shore- savings on excursions
Perhaps the largest additional cost are escorted shore excursions offered in every port of call ranging in price from $25 per person for a tour by motor coach to as much as $300 for helicopter flight-seeing. For two couples, it is less expensive to hire a cab or rent a car for a day than for each person to join an organized excursion. Also there is no requirement to leave the ship when in port. Some passengers prefer to relax on board and lounge by the pool as the ship is much less crowded after most people have gone ashore. Shore excursions make the most sense when few attractions are within walking distance and local means of transportation are scarce.

Twenty-five years ago, choosing a countertop was easy. You picked from a dozen or so colors of plastic laminate and then moved on to another room in the house. But therebeen a counter revolution in this country, that you, the consumer have sparked because of your desire for a more functional, stylish and luxurious counter. The counter is no longer just a work surface, but an integral design element in the kitchen. Let face it, the kitchen is the focal point of every home.

Manufacturers around the world have answered consumers need for more, by offering multitudes of styles, surfacing materials and colors so that homeowners can design the perfect kitchen.

When the choice is A, B or C, weighing the pros and cons and making a reasonable decision is easy. When it's A to Z and sometimes two or three times that - as you will discover when you start selecting countertops for the kitchen in your new house - all those possibilities can become overwhelming. Her a descriptive list of products to help you find your top counter:

Plastic Laminate is priced between $25 and $50 per linear foot, installed.

Plastic laminate countertops have been around since the beginning of the modern kitchen. This common and least expensive countertop material, by a considerable margin, is available in just about any color and texture you can imagine. The four major manufacturers - Wilsonart, Formica, Nevamar and Pionite -each offer more than a hundred colors and patterns. The latest rage is having your plastic laminate custom-designed to your own color, texture and style, but be prepared to spend a few bucks here. Laminate is a breeze to clean because of its smooth surface, but chips and scratches are very hard to repair. An entire laminate counter can be installed for somewhere between $600 and $1800 for most kitchens. Note: If you want your backsplash to match your countertop, tell your installer now so he orders enough material and maybe even works in a discount.

Ceramic & Porcelain Tile is priced between $50 to $80 per linear foot, installed. Plain-colored tiles cost from $2 to $40 per tile with hand-painted tiles running from $5 to $75.

Ceramic and porcelain tile is probably the most versatile material that you can use on your countertop to create a specific style or look. Contemporary, retro, traditional, rustic, country, and everything in-between is possible when working with ceramic tile. Most tile supply stores have showrooms which display vignettes of different types of tile installations to provide you with ideas. There is currently a trend towards rustic, timeworn, and stone-look surfaces. If you are selecting this type of look, be sure to ask your salesperson or designer if you can see several pieces of tile from the same lot in order to see how the color can vary from piece to piece.

If you know that you are very hard on your countertops and want a surface that will wear well and still give you the styling of ceramic tile, look for porcelain tiles. Porcelain tiles are a bit more expensive, but since porcelain is the hardest fired product that you can find, they are well worth stretching the budget.

The only drawback to using tile is the grout lines, because nobody wants to invest the time and energy necessary to keep grout clean. And don抰 be fooled - tile grout requires regular maintenance and lots of elbow grease. On the flip side, the tile itself is heat resistant and easy to clean.

Corian and Solid Surfacing is priced between $75 to $150 a linear foot, installed.

The most widely available and widely known 100 percent synthetic countertop material is Corian by Dupont, but other manufacturers including Wilsonart, Formica and Avenite also make it in a wide range of colors and textures. Known in the building and remodeling industry as solid surfacing materials, these are either a pure acrylic product or a polyester-acrylic mix. Some of the materials are solid colors, but most have flecks that give it a textured look that resembles real stone (that will run the cost up). The solid surfacing materials are scratch resistant; but if you do get one you can sand it out (not as easy as you think). Should you get deep scratches or gauges, the damaged area can be removed and a new piece installed.

Concrete Slab (poured in place) is priced between $50 to $100 per square foot (a hefty price tag for concrete).
Yes, that抯 right! A new buzz in surfacing involves a very old material - concrete. It抯 available in pre formed sections or poured and formed on-site (great for unusually shaped counters ) Concrete countertops are expensive, require a sealant and must be treated with care. Because of its high cost, industrial look and susceptibility to cracking people are hesitant about bring an outside product indoors. On a colorful note - the concrete can be stained any color.

Granite is priced between $75 to $200 a linear foot, installed.
Granite slabs are the most expensive of all countertop surfaces, but this is one product that holds it weight. Not only does it greatly increase the value of your home, but it is timeless and will never date your kitchen the way that some tile products can. The expense of granite will vary greatly, depending on the type, quality and availability of granite that you select, as well as the finished edge that you choose. When getting a price quote from your granite fabricator, find out what style of edge they are including. One of the more popular edges is a 1 1/2 inch bullnose edge.

This high end product is surprisingly practical because it is nearly impossible to damage the surface stone. As the literature says, you need to use a cutting board to protect your cutlery, not the granite.

If you just can resist the look of granite and your purse is stretched, try going for granite tiles. The 12" granite tile has all the same scratch and heat-resistant properties that are found in solid slab, and you can reduce the size of your grout joint by butt-jointing them. If you use a dark colored granite with a dark colored grout, you can come very close to achieving the look of a solid surface countertop.

Composite Stone is priced between $110 to $250 a linear foot, installed.

The hot new thing in countertops (and a big rival to granite) is a stone-synthetic composite made of about 90 percent quartz particles and 10 percent acrylic or epoxy binder. Some of the composites look like natural stone, but not one that you could identify. Others are so close to real granite that you're left wondering if it real or not? Since the composites are man-made materials, they do not have the unexpected variation of granite or marble and they do not need to be sealed. The four major choices - Silestone, Okite, CaesarStone and DuPont's Zodiaq - all use the same process. The only differences between them for the end users are the colors and textures offered.

Taken together, the four companies offer more than 130 countertop choices. Fabricators who work with them say it's as scratch resistant as granite, but they can stain if food spills arencleaned up promptly.

Butcher block generally prices around $30 per square foot.

Its usually made from rock maple because of its tight grain, as well as oak and cherry and it can also be made in mixed and exotic species. It surface is great for cutting and chopping. A word of caution: Your knife marks will show on this surface and it's also prone to water damage so it shouldn抰 be placed near a sink without several coats of sealant.

Stainless Steel starts around $150 per linear foot.

If youe looking for a professional, restaurant-style kitchen then stainless steel is worth a look. It an alloy steel that contains a splash of chromium to make it rust resistant. Since it a relatively thin product it is attached to plywood to provide strength and soften its sound. This is one product where you want to weigh the pros and cons because its fabrication is costly, difficult and not easy to change years down the road if you tire of its look. The benefits of steel is that it won stain, can handle heat and is easy to clean. On the flip slide, it shows scratches, fingerprints (not a great choice if you have small children) and dents and it can be a rather noisy work surface.

Soapstone (Steatite) ranges in cost from $55 per square foot.

Often seen in kitchen sinks in historic houses, soapstone has returned to modern kitchens as both a countertop and sink material. Soapstone is generally dark gray in color and has a smooth feel due to its high concentration of talc. It is somewhat resistant to stains and burning, but needs to be treated regularly with applications of mineral oil.

Trendy Countertops

Every year kitchen dealers and designers put their heads together to decide what抯 hot for one of the most important rooms in the house. This year, kitchens are getting all sorts of new and exciting work surfaces. A big change is that laminates have stopped mimicking other material like wood and stone and gone for a high tech look all its own. Another big trend is the use of more metal, especially stainless steel. But a real big trend is the mixing of many types of materials to achieve a highly personal, custom look such as granite tops with tile backsplashes and laminate islands with gleaming metal counters. Granite, marble and solid materials still remain big, but the latest in cutting-edge counter technology are countertops made out of cement.

Countertops, Countertops, Countertops

To complicate matters further, a typical kitchen of 2004 might have not just one countertop but Moncler Jacket several ?say, the usual straight run, plus a granite-topped island, a marble baking station, and a stainless prep area with built-in butcher-block cutting board. The design pros call such mixing and matching "surface synergy." And it's not enough for counters to sit around looking pretty - they must work. Counters are becoming ever more functional, with such features as integrated drain boards and hydraulic lifts that let you vary the height for maximum comfort.

A Bit of Last Minute Practical Advice

In the end function will matter much more than looks because if the kitchen in your new house is not well laid out and there's not enough practical counter space or cabinets, you will hate it every day you live there, even if everything looks terrific.

Keep in mind that none of these products are trouble free, but you know what you can handle. Corian and plastic laminate will scratch, granite requires periodic resealing, and all of them will stain if food spills, especially if such common staining agents as mustard, red wine or strawberries are left to dry on it for any period of time. With effort, though, you can usually get the stains out. The only fool-proof counter top material that absolutely won't stain, the scratches are inconsequential and it's a cinch to maintain is stainless steel, but that抯 a look you might want to rethink.

If you抮e going for tile, you might want to test the stone to make sure that it won't fail as a countertop. You can do this by laying a sample in the kitchen sink and pouring vinegar onto the polished surface. If the shiny surface dulls, you know what will happen when it becomes a countertop.

Since granite is a natural material its color range is wide and it can can be marked with irregularities. The degree of variation will not show up on 4 X 4-inch sample, so to avoid any unpleasant surprises on this score, you should visit the fabricator and pick out the slab yourself.

Backsplash

Now that youe picked out your countertop it time to decide how decorative and unique you want your backsplash to look. A backsplash started out as  moncler jackets in london   a functional convenience - an easy-to-clean surface that protected kitchen walls, especially those behind the cooktop, sink and prep area. It didn take long for homeowners and kitchen designers to realize that a distinctive backspalsh could help enhance the overall look of a kitchen. The great thing about designing a backsplash is that are no real rules, just tips and creative ideas.

Here抯 a roundup of how some popular backsplash materials measure up when it comes to cost and installation.

Ceramic Tile starts at $2 moncler coat per square foot for 4-in. machine-made tiles and can easily top $20 per square foot for handmade tiles. Mass-produced tile murals may cost as little as $45 for a six-tile pattern, but you can also spend thousands of dollars for hand-painted murals. Labor varies from state to state but averages from $2.50 to $8.50 per square foot.

Ceramic tile is the most versatile backsplash material because it offers the most in color, shape and size. Tiles are sold in a matte finish that adds a more subtle look and a gloss finish that is shiny. Some also have raised edges or other textured areas to add another dimension to the design. Simple tricks like rotating tiles to look like diamonds, varying and combining different shapes and sizes and adding the occasional accent tile can really spice up your kitchen (and it won抰 break your bank).

Stone Tile (Granite and Marble) start at $10 per square foot and just keep climbing. Natural stone like granite and marble come in a wide range of colors and textures. Tumbled marble in 4 inch squares is becoming the favored backsplash because it has a worn, pitted surface and its colors have been softened and muted by abrasion and acid wash.

Solid Surfacing ranges in cost from $25 to $30 per linear foot for a loose backsplash; $45 to $50 for an integral covered backsplash and as much as $75 per linear foot for a full-height backsplash.

If you had a solid surface countertop installed, don抰 be shy about asking your fabricator if he has enough material left over to make a backsplash, because he might throw it in for free. The reason for the high cost is that there is a lot of material waste involved when fabricating a solid surface backsplash.

Metal and Metal Laminates $$$$$ (except for the laminates)
A skilled metal worker can fabricate a backsplash out of virtually any sheet metal on the market (copper, stainless steel, zinc, brass and even nickel) and provide a range of surface textures (hammered, ribbed and even quilted, like in the old diner抯) but good luck finding a shop that specializes in sheet-metal backsplashes. A sheet-metal backsplash   is probably the most expensive option - clocking in at $140 to $160 per square foot for copper or zinc. Stainless steel starts at around $20 per square foot depending on the fabricator, while the lesser metal - metal laminates - start at around $8 per square foot (that does抰 include fabrication and installation, which will run you another $10).

Make A Splash!
A hot new trend in accenting your countertop are backsplash walls that run from counter to cabinets and even up to the ceilings using spectacular materials and designs. Look at the space above your counter as a blank canvas waiting for your artistic touch. Working closely with a designer you can now choose from endless textures and materials, such as glass, hand-painted porcelain, luxury tiles, gleaming metal, raised dimensional designs, and natural stone such as slate, marble and granite. You can also mix and match borders.

Many ask, but few are serious"Oh, well, I really didn't want an agent to come out here," says the voice on the phone. "I thought you would just send me some stuff in the mail."
That is a typical response from people who have sent LTCi response cards to our company. However, there is a real, common sense reason for sitting down with an agent to talk about LTCi especially if you can find one who is actually a CLTC (Certified Long Term Care). All insurance is complex–LTCi is especially so.
Worried about scams? Face to  north face footwear face is bestWhile a person can hand you a scam anywhere, you are much safer when you see him face to face, get his name, license number and the name of a company you can call if you have questions about the legitimacy of the agent. Usually, however, it's simply much easier to say "no" over the phone, or just avoid sending the application in when you have done it through the mail. The truth is those who want quotes over the phone or who want to "get information through the mail" are more often just looking for some sort of excuse not to purchase LTCi.
What an agent will do
Designing a policy that fits your needs is a multi-step process that involves educating you along with determining your needs. A good agent understands the process of providing the coverage you need and will not enter your home and immediately begin filling out an application. Instead, he/she will engage in conversation–often about your family, your previous work history, general information about your finances, and discussion about your health and major medical insurance coverage.
Most agents are trained to share information very informally, so you don't even realize you are telling them things they need to know in order to decide if LTCi is right for you. If it seems like the agent is "prying," remember, he is required ask for personal information. Surely you would rather give such information to a person you can see and even call later if you have questions.
Needs analysis: finding out if you qualify
Two of the most critical areas of discussion will be about your health and your finances. The agent will be looking for medicare and medicare supplement insurance if you are over 65, or for major medical–either private or from your employer–if you are still working or were able to keep your employer's health insurance when you retired. The one thing the agent does NOT want to hear is that you are on Medicaid, the government program for those with a severely low income. If you are on Medicaid, you are not eligible for any type of LTCi because it is considered double coverage. Medicaid will pay your nursing home bill should you ever need extended care.
Since LTCi is medically underwritten, the agent will ask you about your health. It is the agent's responsibility to help you avoid any unnecessary inconvenience or doctor's reports that would just result in a rejection. If you already have crippling diseases, major illnesses or extreme obesity, you will not qualify. The same goes for cognitive impairment such as dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
Finding out if you need it
Once establishing that you may qualify based on your health (remember, the company will still see a doctor's report in most cases), the agent will ask you about your home and family. Do you have children who would be able and willing to participate in at least part of your care, assuming they outlive you? If you have a lot of stairs in your home, have you made plans to move in with someone or to go to an assisted living facility? Is your spouse already deceased, leaving you to fend for yourself if you need physical help? Are you a disabled veteran who would be on a priority list for a VA nursing home if you should need it. Knowing your precise situation will help the agent to design a plan for you.
In addition to understanding your family situation, the agent will ask you about your assets. One of my recent contacts is a millionaire thanks to a workman's  North Face 3 In 1 Jackets comp settlement. He worked on scaffolding many stories above a concrete parking area. One of the scaffold boards broke just as he was crossing it with a heavy load. He plunged to the street ,breaking nearly every bone in his body except, incredibly, his back. An enormous settlement pays him for the rest of his life and includes care in a nursing home when he can no longer get around his home with his wheelchair, walker,  face north and other equipment. The man has enough money to buy the nursing home. He does not need LTCi insurance.
While some people are wealthy enough that they don't need LTCi, others, while not necessarily poor, actually have very little to protect. If you live in a mobile home on a rented lot, have no savings or investments, and are living on little more than your social security check, you will probably qualify for Medicaid if you ever do need nursing home care. However, even if your assets do not warrant LTCi, your personal preferences might. You may simply want the option of home care or assisted living. Or you may want to protect your dignity and spare your family the hardship of taking care of you. You will not have such choices if you are dependent on Medicaid.
Completing the App and telling you what to expect
Once your agent has determined that you are medically qualified and that you have a need for LTCi, he/she will fill out the application for you. He will design a basic benefit that you are comfortable with and will discuss available riders. Don't hesitate to ask questions, including whether the agent will be available to help you with the policy in the future–or if you will be at the mercy of the 800 number series once the company has your money.
Once the agent has completed the application, you will  North Face Goretex Hooded Men Jacket need to write a check for the first month's premium. This check will start the application process, pay for doctor's reports, and issue the policy if you are accepted. NO agent can guarantee that you will be accepted as the underwriters do not share the doctor's reports. However, if you are rejected, the check you write will be sent back to you in full.
Some companies require a face to face assessment. If so, the agent will tell you, and might even make the appointment from your home. You can decide what time of day you want the assessment and you have the right to know what the assessing agency will do. Generally, the purpose of such a visit is to make sure you do not already have some crippling condition or cognitive impairment.
Once you are accepted
The best companies will not send your policy to you in the mail. Instead, the agent will visit you again and will go over your policy, showing you what to do in the event that you should need to start using it. This visit is the perfect time to ask any questions that might have occurred to you once the agent left your home. The only other thing you need to do is share your decision with your family. You will find that it is the most thoughtful gift you could ever give them.
